(ANSA-AFP) - EREVAN, FEBRUARY 26 - After a sit-in that lasted all night in front of the Parliament building, thousands of Armenian opponents returned to parade today through the streets of Yerevan to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accused of inflicting humiliation on the country with the defeat in the war with Azerbaijan in recent months.
A procession first marched in front of the premier's residence to then head towards the presidency, where a meeting is scheduled between a delegation of opponents and the head of state, Armen Sarkisian. Protesters wave national flags and chant anti-government slogans. Former Prime Minister Vazgen Manukyan, whom the opposition is a candidate for Pashinyan's succession, has invited all the people to join the protests. "Either we get rid of them, or we will lose Armenia," Manukyan said.
Yesterday, after having rejected all exhortations to resign, Pashinyan had accused the military of an attempted coup and had led a demonstration in Yerevan with 20 thousand of his supporters, while the opposition had brought into the square 10 thousand demonstrators who had also erected barricades in front to Parliament, promising to continue to the bitter end with the protest.
