A controversy in Brazil over the presence of the mayor of Sao Paulo, Bruno Covas, at the final of the Libertadores Cup, held on Saturday at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro: the politician, who until yesterday was on medical leave after the sessions of radiotherapy which he undergoes periodically for the treatment of cancer, is in fact one of the categories most exposed to the risk of contracting Covid-19.
Furthermore, Covas's trip to Rio took place just as the city of Sao Paulo finds itself in the 'red phase' of restrictions, a measure adopted by the state government on weekends and after 8pm on working days to try to contain the greater spread of coronavirus infections.
The state of Sao Paulo, the largest and most populous in Brazil, is also the most affected by the disease by number of cases and deaths.
