(ANSA-AFP) - ROME, AUG 18 - Salim Ayash, the alleged member of Hezbollah who was the main accused in the attack in which the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was killed on February 14, 2005, was found guilty by the Special Court for Lebanon of the UN. The other three defendants were found not guilty. The Lebanese media reports. All four are fugitives.
According to the Tribunal, which read today the verdict in Leidschendam, the Netherlands, there is not enough evidence to find the other three defendants, Assad Sabra, Hussein Oneissi and Hassan Merhi, guilty.
After today's verdict, the sentence with the sentence imposed on Ayash will be handed down at a later time. However, the offender has one month to appeal against the verdict.
The Tribunal also said there was "no evidence" of the Lebanese pro-Iranian Hezbollah or Syria movement being involved in the assassination. (ANSA-AFP).
