WARSAW - The outgoing president of Poland, the ultra-conservative nationalist Andrej Duda, who, according to the exit polls, obtained 41.8% of the preferences in the first round of the presidential elections, is ahead, but without having reached an absolute majority. On 12 July he will therefore have to confront Rafal Trzaskowski, a liberal and pro-European profile, and the main opposition candidate, who today obtained 30.4% of the votes on a national scale. Only in two weeks will the outcome of the challenge between two political figures, which represent two very different paths, for the future of the country be known. But also for its role in Europe. In order to face the outgoing president, Trzaskowski will have to collect the votes of the other Democratic candidates, who until today, for strategic reasons, had not declared their future intentions.
