Kazakhstan is implementing a broad package of political reforms that open a new phase in the liberalization of socio-political life, which go in the direction of further development of the basic institutions of democracy, such as the right of citizens to meet peacefully, the organization election and political party activities. At the end of May this year - it is underlined by Nur-Sultan (the new name of the capital in honor of the first president Nursultan Nazarbaev) - the president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev signed a series of laws, among which the one on the demonstrations peaceful, which simplifies their legal regulation. Independent experts, civil activists, human rights activists and non-governmental organizations participated in the drafting process. As for the electoral law, the rights of women and young people to participate in the political life of the country are improving. With the mandatory introduction of the 30% quota for women and young people under 29 on the electoral party lists. The new special quotas will be implemented in 2021, the year of regular elections for Parliament's Mazhilis. Today over 4.5 million economically active women and 2.8 million young people aged 20 to 29 live in Kazakhstan. From now on, the category of citizens indicated will participate more widely in the elections of the deputies of the local representative body and the lower house of Parliament. Improvements are also expected for the parties: the amendments signed by President Tokayev will make it possible to reduce the number of signatures for the creation of a political association that can participate in the elections from 40,000 to 20,000 people.
