Greece has elected the first female president of the Republic: Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou has obtained the go-ahead from Parliament. "The time has come for Greece to open up to the future," said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis earlier this month, presenting the name of Sakellaropoulou for the parliamentary vote. Sakellaropoulou, 63, judge, for four years has been head of the highest administrative tribunal of Greece, the Council of State, where she was - also in this case - the first woman to fill that role.
