TALLINN, 8 DEC - The youngest world premier will be the Finnish Sanna Marin, 34, voted by the Social Democratic Party, in power in the country, to take the place of the outgoing Antti Rinne. Marin, currently transport minister, will also be the youngest Finnish premier ever.
It is likely, according to local media, that parliament will quickly approve the appointment of Marin and his new government and that she will therefore represent Finland at the EU summit on 12-13 December in Brussels. Finland currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union and will maintain it until the end of the year.
Rinne, in office since last June, had seen the support of his main ally, the center party, withdrawn after heavy criticism of the management of the state-owned postal service.
