NEW DELHI, 8 DEC - It was a short circuit in the middle of the night that triggered the violent fire, which, from a school backpack factory where, apparently, several people slept, perhaps workers, quickly spread with black smoke and flames in the rest of a building in the old city of Delhi, which houses a cereal-covered market, leaving at least 43 dead on the ground. This is what the authorities reveal, explaining that the fire brigade could not get close to the building, which stands in a maze of narrow alleys and obstructions, and used hydrants from tens of meters away.
Family members of the victims had to recognize the corpses of some of their loved ones from photos taken on the cell phone by the fire brigade. The Indian authorities are investigating whether the factory, from which the flames started, was illegal.
