ROME, NOVEMBER 21 - "Globally, every year one billion two hundred million women suffer violence and fifty thousand are killed by members of their own family. Often the abuse of women is consumed in front of children: it is estimated that globally about 3 children out of 4 (around 75%) were victims of at least one form of violence in the previous year, involving 1.3 billion children, and 90% of these abuses remain unknown ". These are the data released by "Making the Connection", the publication created by World Onlus that offers an unprecedented key to understanding violence against women and children. "In Italy - the study informs - women who have suffered violence at least once in their life represent the sum of the population of Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin and Palermo combined, most of which are consumed within the home and , in many cases, have been experienced in the presence of boys and girls ". "More than 6 million women are victims of violence in Italy, and in 8 cases out of 10 (compared to 6 out of 10 at the global level) these women die at the hands of a partner, ex-partner or family member - it is explained in the report -. data, violence against women and violence against children are linked by 6 levels of interconnection: they share numerous risk factors, originate from the same social and cultural norms, have common, accumulated and combined consequences, occur concurrently, they are transmitted from generation to generation and often overlap in adolescence.
For this reason they require the adoption of a common vision that knows how to recognize the points of connection and sharing between the two phenomena, and that takes into account this complexity ".
The presentation of the publication took place in the Chamber of Deputies in the presence, among others, of Marco Chiesara, president of WeWorld Onlus. (ANSA).
