ROME, NOVEMBER 20 - Fires that have been ravaging some parts of Australia for days could have killed 350 koalas. It is the alarm launched by the hospital in Port Macquarie, one of the most affected areas, where over 30 animals were brought and rescued in a few days.
About 75% of the areas burned by the flames, the doctors explained, were part of the primary habitat of the koalas. For this reason, the hospital together with WWF Australia, calls for a structure to be built as soon as possible that can accommodate the surviving animals so that they can live in peace, reproduce and then return to live in nature.
Meanwhile, the video of a woman who has thrown herself into the flames to rescue a koala, perched on a tree surrounded by fire, is going around the world. In the images we see Toni, the brave lady, who takes off her blouse and uses it to protect the little bear which then wets with water on her back and on her burnt legs.
