BEIJING, 20 NOV. - The Chinese foreign ministry convenes the US business official William Klein after the US Senate vote on the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, threatening countermeasures if the law is operational. Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu expressed "firm protest," a statement said. "We strongly urge the US to follow effective measures to prevent the provision from becoming law" and to stop interference in Chinese internal affairs. Otherwise, China "will take strong counter-measures and the US will take on all the consequences."
