MOSCOW, 5 NOV - The hopes of putting an end to the division of Europe linked to the fall of the Berlin Wall have only been partially fulfilled but the current crisis in relations between Russia and the West can be resolved. This was stated by former president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev speaking at a meeting with a group of cultural figures and German businessmen held at the Gorbachev Foundation. The meeting was dedicated to the imminent thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. "A reliable system of common security, prevention and resolution of conflicts was not created in Europe and this is very necessary for our continent," said Gorbachev underlining how "the bitter experience of the last few years" proves it.
"We must not give up," he said, adding that "the current generation of leaders can show wisdom, responsibility and rebuild dialogue and trust."
