BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 16 - Taiwan has cut off relations with the Solomon Islands after the South Pacific island state has decided to move its diplomatic relations from Taipei to China: the Foreign Ministry, Joseph Wu, has announced it.
During the day, the Democratic Government Coalition for Progress, a coalition in power in the Solomon Islands, approved with 27 votes in favor, zero against and 6 abstained from the pro-Beijing strategic change despite the pressure of the USA and Australia. The decision was approved by the cabinet of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
