Earthquake in the Philippines, at least 8 dead

The death toll from two strong earthquakes that hit some islands in the Luzon Strait in northern Philippines increased to eight dead and about 60 wounded: the first, of magnitude 5.7 (and not as reported previously), according to the American Geophysical Institute (USGS), it was recorded at 1:24 local time while the second, magnitude 4.6, followed at 3:19.
Both were located at a depth of 10 km and respectively 21 and 22 km east of Itbayat, a town in the Batan Islands with a population of around 2,800.
   Some houses have been completely destroyed and as a precaution the authorities have advised over 1,000 residents not to return to their homes due to possible further shocks in the night.
