TEGUCIGALPA, 4 JULY - At least 27 fishermen have died and another 9 are missing in the sinking of a fishing boat yesterday due to bad weather in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Honduras. Fifty-five people rescued.
The army of the Central American country explains that the boat went out to sea in inappropriate weather conditions for fishing, and then lost at least 40 nautical miles from the coast. The Caribbean commercial fishermen's association has said that nearby boats have been recalled to assist relief efforts. The sinking would have occurred near Cayo Gorda, northeast of the easternmost point of the Honduran coast. The authorities said that another fishing vessel with 49 men on board had already tipped over in the same area a little while before, but all had been saved.
