TEHRAN, JUNE 22 - Iranian airspace is totally safe, even on the Persian Gulf, and flights pass through it normally: the head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Agency, Ali Abedzadeh, quoted by state television, said.
The comment comes after some international airlines said they wanted to modify their routes that ran through Iranian airspace, following the shooting down of a US drone by Iran. Abedzadeh said that no airline has made a formal request to change the routes to its agency.
"In the last two years, with tensions in the region, flights in Iran's airspace have grown to over 1,000 a day," he commented.
