BRUSSELS, JUNE 21 - Black smoke at the top of European leaders on appointments for top European jobs. The match was postponed to an extraordinary meeting called for June 30th.
On the nominations "there is a deadlock. Tusk has been given a mandate to speak with representatives in the EU Parliament to see that the Spitzenkandidaten criterion is exceeded". This was stated by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte speaking to reporters at the end of the dinner of EU leaders on the appointment of the commission president.
"This perspective is better for our interests", explains the head of the government, underlining "not wanting to discover the cards" on the profile that Italy intends to support.
"He must be a strong and authoritative candidate," he underlines.
Long conversation between Conte and French President Emmanuel Macron in the hotel in Brussels where they both stay.
Together with the two, sitting at the table in the hotel bar, there is the Luxembourg premier Xavier Bettel, while in the same room but at a different table Chancellor Angela Merkel.
