WASHINGTON, JUNE 9 - He was nicknamed 'Mr Untouchable', and an iconic cover of Time delivered him to history as the unfathomable drug lord of the 1970s New York. Now it is known that Nicky Barnes is dead. It happened in 2012, when he was 78 years old, but only now he has heard of it: Barnes had lived secretly for almost 30 years, under a protection program after collaborating with the justice and helped to dismantle the network of the heroin shop in the Big Apple. His rival, Frank Lucas, had just died at 88 a year, with whom he contended for years to control heroin dealing. Both characters have been the protagonists of successful books and films.
