(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, MAY 2 - At 10.00 o'clock (local time) Israel stopped to commemorate the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust. At that time the sirens sounded for two minutes and the whole town stopped to pay tribute to those who died during the extermination. Wherever they were, in schools, offices, shops, military bases, on the street or on the beach, the Israelis stopped their activities and silently remembered standing. Even the cars and buses have stopped and passengers have dropped to attention.
Immediately afterwards in Jerusalem at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum was the memorial ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Reuven Rivlin and the survivors. Other ceremonies and demonstrations took place in schools and community centers throughout the country. At the Knesset, as every year on this occasion, the names of those who have been killed will be read.
