WASHINGTON, APRIL 14 - Pete Buttigieg, Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and surprisingly on the rise in the polls, officially announced his candidacy for the 2020 presidential election. If elected 37-year-old Buttigieg, he would become the first president of the United States openly gay and take the leap directly from first citizen to the White House. "My name is Pete Buttigieg. They call me Mayor Pete and I decided to run for the presidency of the United States," he said in front of his supporters.
