BRUSSELS, 30 DEC - The last turning point of the European legislature is approaching, but 2018 comes to an end with a few of the completed key files. So the new year promises to be even more difficult, between the attempt to close the open construction sites - from Brexit to the revision of the asylum system for migrants until the reform of the eurozone - and the prospect of European elections.
Moreover, Romania will be captained in the first six crucial months of the year, with Jean-Claude Juncker questioning the ability to manage the situation, given the strong tensions within the government of Bucharest. Romania is in fact "technically well prepared" but "its government has not yet fully understood what it means to preside over EU countries", because in order to manage negotiations at 28 as well as the final stage of Brexit it is "the firm will to put their own concerns in the background, and I have some doubts about this, "warned Juncker.
